Florida Vital Records and Other HelpOur thanks to Arlene for the following information This is the information regarding the Florida Adoption Reunion Registry, which is a good starting point for searching in Florida:
Florida Adoption Reunion Registry Before they can add your name to the FARR, they will verify all information contained in your application and compare this with their records to be sure that they are dealing with the correct parties. Please be aware that this verification process, which involves other offices in HRS, may take several months. Upon satisfactory completion of the verification process, your name will be entered on the FARR, and you will be so notified. You will also be contacted as soon as a match occurs. You can also select to receive non-identifying information of related family members. This information is extremely limited - for birth parents the only information they are allowed by law to receive is a 3 month date range of when the adoption was finalized, the state where the adoption papers were filed, and the name of the attorney of record for the court proceedings. They claim that the law is designed to allow birth parents and adult Adoptee's to find one another mutually through the Reunion Registry not through opening records and disrupting lives. They also claim that no birth dates are changed, although indications are that they were falsified on a regular basis - also BY LAW the city of birth may be changed, and references to a hospital will be removed on the amended birth certificate. Florida now has a Confidential Intermediary (CI) Program. When contacting the state be sure to ask about the program. Our thanks to Gem for this information: Since we have just gone through most of the process in that state, I found some areas that could use some clarification. It does not cost anything to request the finalization date of your adoption or to enter a consent letter into your file. We waited three months for our letter telling us the court and date of finalization, which isn't really bad at all. It costs $35.00 to register with Adoption Reunion Registry, which I have not heard anything good about. There is another registry, called PSN that is free. We just received (verbal) non identifying information from Children's Home Society , with a written report due in a couple of weeks, and I was amazed at how much was in the file. Coming from a state that has rumors flying about changed birth dates and counties, etc. he was thrilled to find out that his amended bc, as limited as it was, was correct.
